Small Projects is participating in the Unseen Amsterdam Photo Art Fair 2023 from 21 to 24 September, presenting the works of Grete Andrea Kvaal, Eva Faché and Jet Pascua.

Unseen is an art fair dedicated to the latest developments in contemporary photography. The world of photography is developing at lightning speed. Contemporary photography offers unexpected perspectives and stems from different backgrounds. Unseen sees photographers making use of the medium in innovative, intelligent, inspiring and provocative ways.

Unseen connects the new with the established and the established with the new, creating a platform that has become an important insight into the latest developments and directions the medium of photography is taking

Amongst its 65 exhibitors are established international photography and contemporary art galleries, as well as young up and coming initiatives. The fair makes no distinction between galleries in those categories, an approach that is underlined by its iconic circular design.

Grete Andrea Kvaal (b. 1944), is a camera-based artist, who lives and works in her hometown of Tromsø. She primarily works with black and white anologue photography, but in recent years has adopted color and digital photography as well.

Her photographic interest mainly revolves around themes from her own life, from nature or from her encounters with other people. These are topics she goes into deeply over a long period of time, in order to acquire a greater perspective.

Eva Faché (1994) grew up in Gent, Belgium, where her eye for documentary photography was already recognised by her teachers in high school. Eventually, she pursued the discipline at the NARAFI School of Photography in Brussels, and then an MA degree from the Conservatory of Art KASK in Gent.

Eva also worked as a photo journalist for the De Volkskrant in Amsterdam during the year that the newspaper company won the best newspaper in Europe award. Eva’s personal work is grounded on the curiosity to understand the world around us. Often taking interest in human behavior related to the role of identity and perception of reality in people’s lives and how this shapes and affects communities and connects people in the society.

Jet Pascua works conceptually and his art is manifested in various media such as drawing, painting, video, sculpture, installation, film and photography. Many of his works are temporal in nature, both in terms of material and thematically.

Jet studied painting at the University of the Philippines in the 1990’s. He also received a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree at the Royal Academy of the Arts in Oslo and Master in Fine Arts degree at the Academy of Art in Bergen between 2004-2009. In 2020 he graduated from the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme, a PhD program in Artistic Research.

Small Projects is supported by the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (OCA).
